Editorial & Review Policy

This policy explains how AskThePaw researches, writes, and reviews its content, and how we handle accuracy and corrections. It applies to every article on the site.

Our sourcing standards

We build our guides from established, authoritative sources — including veterinary references such as the Merck Veterinary Manual, professional bodies (AVMA, AAHA, ACVN, the American Heartworm Society), recognized breed registries (AKC, CFA), and peer-reviewed research. When a claim is important — a health risk, a dosage principle, a safety warning — we ground it in these sources rather than opinion.

Accuracy and honesty

  • We present health risks, hereditary conditions, and breeding-ethics concerns plainly, even for popular breeds.
  • We distinguish established facts from areas of ongoing debate, and we date time-sensitive information.
  • We do not make personalized medical or veterinary diagnoses. Our content is general education.
  • Prices and figures are estimates for a US audience and change over time.

Medical disclaimer

AskThePaw does not provide veterinary advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Information here should never replace a consultation with a licensed veterinarian who has examined your pet. If your pet is showing serious or emergency symptoms, contact your veterinarian or an emergency animal hospital immediately.

Corrections

We want to get it right. If you spot an error or something that’s out of date, please tell us and we’ll review it promptly and update the article where warranted.
